What is a universal sling?
Universal slings are the most commonly supplied patient lift sling for general transfer purposes. Because the sling is easy to use and fit, the universal sling is a multi-purpose sling that provides toileting access as well as good back and thigh support.

For cranes and slings to perform properly, they have to be in top condition. So, good inspection and maintenance are especially important.

What is a choker sling?
A choker hitch is used to tighten or snug a sling down securely to provide greater load control. When using a choker hitch, one eye of the hitch is wrapped around the load and then passed through itself and then attached to the crane or hoist hook.
What is an in situ sling?
In-situ slings are a type of sling that, given appropriate risk assessment, can be left in place underneath a user for an extended period following transfer. Aptly named and sometimes referred to as all-day slings, they are often characterised by their material, which is generally a 3D warp-knitted polyester spacer.
What are universal slings used for?
The Universal Sling can be used in a divided leg or closed leg position for transfers to or from a bed, wheelchair, the floor or even a toilet or commode, thanks to its commode aperture.
What is Hammock Sling?
Hammock sling – for general transfers with additional support to the thigh area. The Guldmann Hammock sling is designed for lifting and moving people with diminished motor function as it supports the entire body, not including the head, and provides extra support around the hips and thighs.
What is a round sling?
Round slings are made of internal load bearing strands with a protective cover. These types of slings are fabricated using 100% high tenacity polyester yarn, wound in a continuous hank to form an endless sling for the core.
What is a bridle hitch?
Bridle hitches Are used for hoisting an object that has lifting lugs or attachments. Position the hook over the centre of gravity of the load. Adjust sling leg lengths with turnbuckles to level raised load.
Can you use slings with any hoist?
Slings should not be used by more than one person to prevent cross-infection. Always use slings that are compatible with the hoist (this usually means using slings from the same manufacturer). The hoists and slings should be serviced every six months.
Are there different sizes of slings?
Handicare’s lifting slings are available in sizes ranging from XXS to XXL. The smallest sizes fit children and small adults, and the largest sizes fit large and, often, overweight users. The three sizes in the middle of the scale, S, M and L, fit most normal-sized adults.

All Slings are made to the International Standard ISO10535:2011, which stipulates the requirements for how Slings are tested, and also contains requirements for periodic inspections.
